FOTI propose to offer hands-on training program on marine shrimp farming at commercial shrimp farming sites in Andhra Pradesh, India. The training will cover all technical aspects of farming the tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon and the white shrimp P. vannamei, that will include the following:

  1. Organized tour to visit different shrimp farming sites to understand the environmental/soil and water quality conditions involved at commercial shrimp farming sites, shrimp pond design, sluice gate design,  and basic principles in selecting shrimp farm sites;

  2. Shrimp pond preparation methods before seeding the ponds, including soil conditioning, water quality management and conditioning the ponds prior to stocking;

  3. Shrimp seed selection procedures from different hatcheries;

  4. Developing standard operating procedures that will include determination of shrimp stocking densities and anticipated feed management and production targets;

  5. Feed preparation including using of feed additives, feeding and feed management procedures in the shrimp ponds;

  6. Water quality monitoring and water quality management principles and practices in the shrimp farm;

  7. Shrimp sampling procedures, monitoring of growth, health monitoring and health management procedures;

  8. General shrimp farm management principles including record keeping, operation of aerators, water pumps, waste effluent management,  shrimp harvesting and marketing procedures.



    VENUE

    The training course will be conducted at the commercial shrimp farming sites technically managed by FOTI near Ongole and Chirala in Andhra Pradesh (AP), India. Ongole is a small town in AP.

TRAINING EXPENSES

Fee for Training:  The fee for training will be US$ 1,500 (One thousand five hundred US dollars) per month. The training fee will be the same for shorter durations, if it is less than a month. The duration of the training shall be up to three months or as per the desire of the participants.

Excluding the fee for training, the participants have to shoulder the expenses for board and lodging, training related local transportation charges. It is anticipated that these expenses will not exceed US$ 120 per day as per prevailing local conditions. Accommodation/lodging shall be arranged in standard hotel with AC room.

TRAINING SCHEDULE

The training will be available at any time throughout the year. However, the best period to initiate training is from February/March onwards with the initiation of shrimp stocking activities after the mild winter in the area.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

The training site at Ongole, AP, India shall be reached by the following mode of transportation:

1.  Flight to Chennai and then travel by train to Ongole.

2.  Flight to Bangalore and then another flight to Vijayawada.      From Vijayawada to Ongole by car (about 2 hour travel by      road from Vijayawada).
